In 2012, while backpacking India and Nepal, I was often approached by children asking for pens or pencils—unfortunately, I had come unprepared with nothing to give. As a result, I resolved to bring pencils on all of my future travels. Part sculptural installation art, part relational street art, these pencils are intended to inspire those who find them.

Pencils (2013 – ) is a collection of 1,000 black & white pencils being distributed throughout the world. The latin phrase, "Ars Longa, Vita Brevis" translates simply as "Life is Short, the Art Long". As a pencil is used and becomes shorter, the individual's opportunity to create decreases.

To date, I have placed pencils by hand in the following countries: Australia, Austria, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Germany, Indonesia, Malaysia, The Netherlands, Singapore, (South) Korea, Taiwan, and the United States.
